About
Bold Rugby Journal is for curious readers who want to follow rugby union with a little more understanding. We explain the laws, positions and patterns of play without assuming you already know the jargon.
What we cover
The publication looks at the moving parts of rugby union: how phases develop, what different positions contribute, how laws affect play and why teams make particular choices. The aim is to help readers recognise the shape of a match, whether they are settling in to watch or revisiting a moment they did not quite understand.
How we explain the game
We start with the question a reader might ask while watching: why did play stop, where did that space come from, or what is a player trying to do? We use plain language, define rugby terms where they matter and keep explanations focused on the subject at hand. We do not present general explanations as advice for playing, officiating or coaching in a particular setting.
Who it is for
New followers, occasional viewers and long-time readers are all welcome. No specialist vocabulary is required; when a rugby term helps, we explain it in context.
The game is clearer when you know what to watch.
Rugby has plenty happening away from the ball. We look at the rules, roles and decisions that make those quieter moments easier to read.
